About us

One of the oldest and strongest educational groups of Mazandaran University is the chemistry educational group, which dates back to before the glorious Islamic revolution. In 1356, the Institute of Chemistry was established for the purpose of training students for master's and doctoral courses. After the Islamic revolution, this institute has continued its activity as the first department of the Faculty of Basic Sciences of Mazandaran University and accepted students in the field of chemistry at the undergraduate level. In 2016, this group launched a doctoral program in three groups: organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analysis, physics, and polymer. The Faculty of Chemistry was separated from the Faculty of Basic Sciences in 2016 and currently operates with four independent educational groups. This faculty is one of the best faculties of Mazandaran University.

Introduction of Educational Groups

Introduction of Applied Chemistry: The field of chemistry at the undergraduate level is divided into two main trends: pure chemistry and applied chemistry. These two tendencies are common in basic and main units and differ from each other in specialized and optional courses. In specialized courses, students of applied chemistry get to know the basics of designing chemical industry units for the production, purification and separation of chemicals. In other words, the focus of specialized courses is more on familiarizing students with the principles of operation and design of equipment used in these industries, such as pumps, heat exchangers, separation towers and reactors. Applied chemistry is a wide range of chemistry and processes related to chemistry such as oil and gas processes, petrochemical processes, polymers and paints, water and wastewater treatment processes, air and environmental pollution, food and pharmaceutical industries, biological processes and It includes etc. Graduates of applied chemistry can enter the workforce with the following titles: * Activities in quality control laboratories, standard laboratories and industrial consumables laboratories *Working in petrochemical, polymer, paint and resin industries, pharmaceutical industries, cosmetic industries and food industries * Carrying out research activities and participating in other research and development projects of industrial companies *Entrepreneurship (production of chemicals in small and low-cost workshops) * Providing advice and services to chemical production centers and solving their problems and challenges * Providing educational and research services in schools and universities Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field of applied chemistry, it is possible for graduates of this field to continue their studies at the master's level in other fields such as chemical engineering, materials and corrosion, biotechnology, polymer engineering, health engineering, etc. Currently, the field of applied chemistry is open at the bachelor's and master's levels in Mazandaran University, and it is possible to continue studying in this field up to the doctorate level inside the country.

The Department of Organic Chemistry of Mazandaran University currently (2023) has 11 faculty members, 8 of whom are professors and 3 are assistant professors. In addition to the participation of colleagues in the group in providing courses required for undergraduate courses in pure chemistry and applied chemistry, he is engaged in teaching and researching in 4 majors: organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and phytochemistry at the master's level and one major: organic chemistry. They are in the doctorate.

In the fall of 2016, at the same time as the chemistry department of Mazandaran University was promoted to the faculty of chemistry, the physical-inorganic chemistry department was formed by merging two majors, physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry. After three years, in the spring of 2019, the Department of Chemistry and Physics became independent and currently with 4 faculty members, including 3 professors and 1 assistant professor, it is engaged in educational and research activities. 5 people will be promoted. Currently, regarding the mission of the Physical Chemistry Department based on the education and training of capable students to enter the fields of education (both school and university), research and industry, this group is active in the course of supplementary education in both the master's and doctoral levels of education. and at the undergraduate level, he has an effective participation in the education of students of this course by providing all courses in physical chemistry for students of pure and applied trends, while also participating in providing courses in physical chemistry and general chemistry for other faculties, including basic sciences and engineering sciences The Department of Physical Chemistry has two research laboratories (experimental and theoretical) and a teaching laboratory, and has suitable facilities for modern research. In the research laboratories, more than 30 master's and doctoral students are working on theses and theses every year. The research activities of the academic staff are focused on the following subjects: 1) Physical chemistry of polymers 2) Surface chemistry and kinetics 3) Physical biochemistry 4) Computational chemistry 5) Molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulation study of various systems Molecular Modeling: Quantum and Computational Design and Simulation

Inorganic chemistry is a branch of chemistry that deals with the properties, characteristics and reactivity of inorganic compounds. Compounds that are not in the category of carbon compounds (except for the group of carbon oxides and carbon disulfide). The necessity and importance of graduate studies in the field of inorganic chemistry is to educate and nurture specialists with dynamic and creative thinking to work in research, educational and chemical industries of the country. Graduates of inorganic chemistry can work in one of the following fields: * Work in research centers, research, management of research and development units of companies and manufacturing plants and quality control laboratory * Working in various industries, including extracting chemicals from mineral sources, petrochemical factories, producing various detergents, disinfectants, cleaners * Entrepreneurship (production of chemicals) * Providing advice and services to chemical production centers and solving their problems and challenges * Providing educational and research services in schools and universities The Inorganic Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Chemistry consists of four faculty members and graduate students in the master's and doctoral degrees. The main activities of this group are focused on energetic materials, coordination chemistry, thermal decomposition of materials, synthesis of transition metal complexes and investigation of their chromotropism properties, preparation of photocatalysts, nanocatalysts, as well as preparation of perovskite solar cells, color sensitized solar cells, light emitting diodes, water oxidizing catalysts.
